# Online math practice programs

This is an annotated list of online math programs and curricula. Typically, the programs offer interactive math practice and/or animated/video lessons, track student progress, and include parent controls. Most of these are commercial programs, and the price varies according to the number of students and the subscription period. However, there are also several free websites included in the list.

**Mathletics**

An online math practice system for grades K-12. In the "Full Curriculum" section students practice hundreds of math topics in 10-question increments. The program also includes "Live Mathletics" where students race with math problems against other students around the world in real-time, games, Rainforest Maths, printable resources, interactives, video tutorials, and a reporting system. **cK-12**

CK-12 is a large, free site for learning and practicing math and science. It contains text-based lessons, FlexBooks® (digital textbooks in PDF, ePub and mobi formats), videos, and quizzes for multitudes of math and science topics from K to grade 12.

**CTC Math**

A comprehensive online tutorial program for grades K-12. Includes video tutorials, interactive questions, diagnostic tests, reporting, and more.

**Future School**

Meant especially for K-2 children, KidsCalculate features a learning game with a treasure map, mini-games, and a student tracking system that covers the topics of counting, comparing, adding, subtracting, and multiplying. A version for computer, iPad, and Android are available. Free.

**Adapted Mind**

An online math practice system that adapts to student's needs. Covers most basic topics per grade but not all. Includes a pretest, virtual prizes, additional printable workhseets, some video lessons, and progress reports. Some features are free; full membership $9.95 a month.

Also included an initial assessment test and detailed progress reports. The curricula for English and Math consist of animated, interactive lessons and practice activities. A free 14-day trial. **Splash Math**

An online math practice system for grades 1-5. Includes all basic topics for those grades, except I did not see any word problems. Accessible on tablet devices. You can practice 20 questions per day for free. One grade level: $9.99/lifetime, all grade levels $29.99/lifetime.

**Smart Tutor**

A fun, online elementary curriculum for K-5th grade reading and math. Includes an automated initial assessment, and an individualized curriculum consisting of animated interactive lessons and practice activities. A free 14-day trial. **DreamBox**

DreamBox Learning is an online math program for K-5 with an adaptive curriculum. It focuses on conceptual understanding and is higly adaptive. Students can personalize their login icon, wallpaper, and music. Kids earn coins and rewards, some of which can be used to play games. **VmathLive**

For grades 2-8. Includes online math practice with scaffolded help and hints, reward badges, origami-based avatars, and math games. A 14-day free trial. Aligned to the Common Core standards (but only offers simple practice and not on all possible topics in the standards). Price: apparently $20 per student.

**Skoolbo**

A free, interactive learning program (game) for reading and mathematics for 4-10 year olds. Skoolbo claims to be the world's larget educational game. Includes 3D worlds and multiplayer races.

**LearnZillion**

Free math videos for all topics in K-8. The videos are organized according to the Common Core Standards (CCS), but can be used even if you don't follow the CCS — just follow the lesson titles by topics.

**A+ Interactive Math**

**Aleks**

ALEKS is a web-based math practice program—like a virtual math tutor. It uses artificial intelligence to assess student knowledge and then decides what topics he should practice. $19.95 a month, $179.95 a year. Family discounts available.

**Khan Academy**

Possibly the web's biggest and free site for math videos. What started out as Sal making a few algebra videos for his cousins has grown to over 2,100 videos and 100 self-paced exercises and assessments covering everything from arithmetic to physics, finance, and history.

An interactive course written by Kadie Armstrong, a mathematician. The lessons contain interactivity, explanations, and quiz questions. The course concentrates on geometry and trigonometry but includes a few other topics as well. Most of the content is accessible by a fee only, but 469 lessons are available as free samples.

### British (UK) online curricula

*While these companies provide math instruction based on the British syllabus, math concepts are the same everywhere, and so the programs are definitely useful worldwide.*

**Whizz Education**

Animated math lessons online for grades K-6 or KS1 and KS2; UK-based. Based on an initial assessment, the child will get a personalised programme of lessons, which is further adjusted depending on the child's progress. $19.99 per month.

GetMathsFit is an online maths teaching program with more than 3,500 maths lessons for 11-19 year olds.
