Homeschool Math Newsletter, Vol. 10
July 13, 2007

Hello! This is some summer news from Maria Miller. This newsletter is not as filled with content as usual &mdash just a summer edition.

In this month's newsletter:

1. Math Mammoth new products
2. Keeping math skills sharp over the summer
3. Tidbits

1. Math Mammoth new products

It is time to announce all the new products that I've released during this summer:

1) The Lightblue series: a complete curriculum for grades 1-3.
Math Mammoth Lightblue books constitute a complete mathematics curriculum for grades 1, 2, and 3, and will be offered exclusively via WinterPromise during the year 2007.

Each grade level comes as a printed worktext and a CD, or a CD alone. The entirety of the worktext is on the CD, and can be printed for use within a family for unlimited use. Each grade-level CD also contains answer keys, tests, and an easy access to script-made free calculation worksheets, which provide extra practice when needed.

Prices: $32 for the CD, OR $52 for the CD and the two printed worktexts.

See the covers, samples, and more information here.

2) Math Mammoth Clock, Money, and Measuring
These three new books are part of the Blue Series: worktexts with both explanations and problems. For grades 1-3.
Math Mammoth Clock - $3.50 download
Math Mammoth Money - $3.00 download
Math Mammoth Measuring - $4.00 download

3) Math Mammoth Algebra 1 Worksheets Collection
With over 130 quality worksheets for typical algebra 1 topics, this collection is designed to be used by teachers and tutors.

Prices: Algebra 1-A is $6.50, 1-B is $5.50, answer keys $2 each. You can get both A and B plus their answer keys for $11.50. See more information and sample worksheets here.

2. Keeping Your Math Skills Sharp Over The Summer

I recently wrote on article on this topic; while it is a little belated for this summer, I hope it still can benefit parents. So please excuse me for the lateness.

While I certainly understand and support the need for kids to enjoy a summer break from schoolwork, for many children some math work over the summer is helpful; perhaps even needful or essential.

Yet different families' situations, abilities, and resources vary a lot. In this article I try to go over some common scenarios and suggest ideas and solutions on how to go about either reviewing or relearning math over the summer.

3. Tidbits

  • Hippocampus.org has free online multimedia lessons for high school and college level. The topics include algebra, introductory and intermediate calculus, physics, history, biology, and a few other subjects as well.

  • Reflecting back - planning ahead. Summer time is a good time to reflect back on the past school year, past instruction, and also to plan ahead.

Till next time,
Maria Miller
